Narinder Chanchal (1940–2021) was a legendary Indian singer renowned for his distinctive voice and specializing in religious music and Punjabi folk. After years of struggle, his major career milestone arrived in 1973 when he made his Bollywood debut with the song "Beshak Mandir Masjid" for the film Bobby, directed by Raj Kapoor; this performance earned him the Filmfare Best Male Playback Award. Over a career spanning several decades, he recorded hundreds of songs and bhajans, becoming synonymous with "Mata ki Bhet" and the iconic "Chalo Bulawa Aaya Hai" from the film Avtaar. He collaborated with prominent directors such as Raj Kapoor and music maestros like Laxmikant-Pyarelal, while his songs featured in films starring legendary actors like Rishi Kapoor and Rajesh Khanna. Beyond cinema, he was a prolific live performer who conducted thousands of jagrans and concerts globally, traveling to countries including the USA, Canada, and the UK. Currently remembered for his immense contribution to devotional music, he was also honored with the citizenship of Georgia, USA, for his cultural impact before his passing at the age of 80.
